Jazz Mallets, huh?
That's the ultimate sweetness. Beats me if anyone really reads this stuff, but oh well.
I am a Jazz Mallet player forced to play Piano as well as Vibes. (I'm better at Vibes.) I've never taken a piano lesson in my life, but I'm catching on. Slowly and painstakingly, that is. Not sure if that's a word. But anyway, the cool thing about being a Vibes player in my band is my director will always let me play the melody on them, even if there is no party written out for me. See, there are two pianists, me and another girl. When she plays piano, I play vibes. When I play piano, she sometimes plays vibes. It's like she doesn't care. Really bothers me. Anywho, my director is going to let me and a clarinet player do a duet in our spring concert. That'll be a lot of fun. Clarinet and Vibes, what an odd couple, eh?
Any of you people know Lionel Hampton?

Hey, just joined.
I'm Alexv. Been playing percussion for 2 or so years now. STarted on clarinet in 6th grade, did piano, then got some drum lessons around late 7th early 8th and loved percussion. I still do clarinet in band (7 clarinets, 18 percussionists, I go where I'm needed) but percussion is my real passion. I've been doing 4 mallets for a while now. Doing 2 musser etudes and looking to start jazz vibes. Some people have recommended some books, Burton's the most, but any tips would be great.
I'm also working on the Mayuzumi right now, plus a lot of drumset stuff, Cirone on snare, and basic timpani crap (Thrilling stuff, timpani excersices)

Where has this group been all my life?!
Greetings cats. Lee Presson here. I just found this community and I'm so glad it exists! I've been pounding the ironworks for ten years with my band LEE PRESSON and the NAILS (www.leepresson.com
). I started out with a borrowed set of vibes but quickly switched to a MalletKAT because it was much easier to transport and amlpify. I have two MalletKATs now and if you're interested in my setup you can go here
. We also have CDs for sale here
It's great to see so many mallet enthusiasts! Current Mood: giddy

Hi, my name is Mike and I'm a sophomore at Eastern High School in southern NJ. I play piano and vibes in my school's jazz ensemble, and enjoy it a lot. I think I'm one of like two jazz mallet players in my entire school. We are an endangered and underlooked species, don't you think?

Hi! I'm Kelsey McPherson, a junior at Coon Rapids High School in the northern suburbs of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Man, I love suburbia.
I'm Pit Captain in our winter drumline (i'm on vibes and mallet kat this year) and pit lieutenant for marching band. I'm also in our jazz ensemble as one of two vibes/aux people. wOOt!
This is my third season (soon to be fourth) in marching band at CR (home of the marching cardinals) and my third season in winter drumline at CR.
Our Pit Tech is the very talented Hope Grover (she owns a 5 octave rosewood marimba named rose-with-thorns, and it fits in her honda civic!), our batterie tech is Mike "Nedge" Neimeyer (a Minnesota Brass Snare Line Vet)and our main director of all marching programs is Kevin Fuhrman (an all around percussionist... he plays at Kokomos in the Mall of America). I heart all my instructors.
Does anybody know if anyone else tried out for the vibes/aux part in the Minnesota All-State Jazz Band? I'm hoping not many did... my chances are better that way. :-D
It's nice to have a place to be all geeky and stuff about my babies.

Im 18 yrs old, A senior at Harry S truman High school (Levittown, PA), and Im the section leader for our Drumline and Marching band Pit's. I didnt do jazz band this year, simply because I didnt have the time, but, I love jazz, and I love the vibes!
